Configuring approval chains for timesheets

Modified on Mon, 21 Aug, 2023 at 5:47 PM

Timesheets submitted by the resources working on various projects need to be approved by the relevant project leaders before they can be finalized. Approval is a key process in this because the entries directly relate to the billing and any errors in timesheet entries can cause variations in invoicing which could lead to complications.

You can choose to enable or disable approvals for project timesheets and also define the approval chain. Let us see how this can be done.

To view the current settings and make changes to these settings, Select Project (1) from the left navigation pane and then go to the Policies & Settings tab (2). Go to the Approval Chain tab here.

To edit the settings, click on the Edit Settings button.

In the Edit Approval Chain Settings window, you can view the various levels of approvals that are required for a timesheet.

You can disable approval chain for project timesheets by unselecting the Does the project timesheet require approval? checkbox.

You can also see the various levels of approvals and select who the approver should be. To add an approver for any level, click on the Role/Employee field and enter the name of the role or the person who is the approver.

You can configure several levels of approval. It is also possible to define what happens in case there are delays in approval at every level. If you want to auto-approve and skip this level in case the approval hasn't been done in a set number of days, select Auto-Approve and skip this level if no action is taken in __ days and enter the required number of days.

To add a new approval level, click on the +Add New Level hyperlink.

After you have made the necessary changes, click on Update to save the changes.
